About
We seek to go to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, and stop faucets from leaking. Simple, yet needed. While I was there, I noticed that almost every sink, faucet and toilet leaked, then in the evenings, there were water shortages when nothing flowed.
This is a situation that has a workable solution. Kathmandu is fairly internet savvy, having a sophisticated tourist base being a historical climbing and trekking base for Mount Everest. We want to use technology and training to get information and resources online to help to preserve the precious resource of water.
There will also be a media production aspect to the project, but it will be different than the traditional sense of doing documentaries, in that we will be uploading video shorts onto the internet as we are doing the project. There will be diagrams and “How to” videos of ways of fixing leaks, along with the story of doing the project. In this way, people in the United States and other countries will also become more knowledgeable about the limited resources and other water issues.
We will operate as a nonprofit and will disband the organization after the project is finished. (We don’t want nice stationary, an office, or unneeded overhead. We just want to do the project.) The website and resulting media, however, will continue to be a resource, the website continuing to give information, with updates for newer water systems. We will research and log (vlog – videolog) where we are starting out, so the project will be charted numerically, and we will be able to see if the project has any impact. We’re hoping that it does.
The project will continue to have a positive impact on society, long after our physical presence is gone. The website will continue, with minimal updating (for 25 years – longer?) so the foundations of the project have been created so that it will continue to be a resource. It might be a possibility to create a public wiki so that when new water systems are implemented, users will be able to upload data.
This project costs much less than you would imagine. The first trip overseas will cost about as much as a guided travel tour. (A regular one, not one to climb Everest. That would be more expensive. Actually, the whole project from start to completion would cost less than a guided trip to climb Everest. So in this project, instead of climbing Everest, you help to dramatically change and shape the world for the better.) It’s amazing what can be done with determination. We are looking for someone (or a group of people) to fund this project. We are a very efficient and small team. Please consider joining us.
If you’d like more convincing, please see our other pages. (We really don’t want stationary or overhead. We do see a workable solution, realize that water is a valuable asset for humanity and want to do something about it. We think it’s beautiful and practical.)
Here’s a link to a video (running time 7:58) on the importance of water as the earth warms, looking at past glaciers in the Himalayan mountains.
